The city of Baton Rouge is the official capital of the US state of Louisiana. It is also the second largest city of the state after New-Orleans. Industrial city, Baton Rouge is also a place to visit thanks to its numerous historic buildings and assets. One of the first things to visit in Baton is doubtlessly the Old State Capital. The impressive white gothic-style castle was built in 1847. Ideally located on a bluff over the Mississippi River, it is today home of the Museum of Political History. The building is worth seeing at least for its architecture and captivating history.

The Louisiana State Capitol is another building that coud not be missed. Built in the early 1930s, the monument is made with beautiful milestone on the exterior and marble coming from many country on the interior. The USS KIDD destroyer may be the most popular attraction in Baton Rouge. The « Pirate of the Pacific » can be visited by anybody throughout the year. Visitors can enter the ship that had been used for several movies or historical documentaries. Part of the USS KIDD and Veterans memorial complex, there is also an observation tower and a museum.

Families who are staying in the region of Baton Rouge should visit the Zoo of Baton Rouge where hundreds of species of animals and birds await the visitors. Younger and older can meet exotic birds, tigers, rhinos, fish, reptiles or amphibians. In addition, the zoo features also a large aquarium.

Culture lovers won’t miss a chance to visit the Louisiana Arts & Science Museum. As its name sounds, the places suggests a captivating mix between art and science. Permanent and changing exhibits are presented all year long.
